My goal this week is to build out the coming school year’s teaching bullet journal. I like to have a light grey and a near-black grey in EF while building the structure of my reference spreads. The contrast helps to focus attention where I want it on the page without distracting via colors.

The bookend approach to inking up for commonplacing

I cleaned two inked pens in preparation for this week. Two threads drive my thinking. The novelty of pen and ink combinations motivates me to get into my work. New choices are always welcome — and effective.

Also, a week of iron gall bravery raised my anxiety. I want my stationery to offer joy, not worry. So, a week without incident or pen damage is capped. I’m happy with how Spring Rain did last week.

Putting Japanese F nibs in the driver’s seat

A full week with my current sextet of pens and inks confirms that I dig this particular set of combinations. The colors and nib choices have been well-balanced: dark and light colors, narrow and wider nibs, large and small pens.

Balance kept me interested and writing throughout the week. Even while on the road. Now that’s success.
