Playing it safe
Kaweco makes a small converter for their pocket pens. It’s a hard plastic cylinder. A plunger on the end creates suction and a seal for the tiny ink chamber. It works well enough. Until it doesn’t.
I couldn’t get the converter to seat securely in my blue Kaweco Sport. Stiff plastic has little give for forming a seal if the sizes of the converter’s end and the internal end of the feed are too different.
Chances are that the converter would stay plugged in just fine given the gentle friction of the converter against the sides of the pen’s section. All the same, I’d rather play it safe since the Kaweco will be my pocket pen for the week.
The softer plastic of an empty cartridge seated properly with a gentle click.
I went with a diverse set of seven pens for the week. Two newer pens for my daily drivers: the LeGrande and Vac700. Together, they give me one round nib for quick writing and one italic for slower writing tasks. A pocket blue and desk blue. And three fun accents, because life is to be lived: an orange, a green, and a purple-pink.
Grey/Black
Montblanc LeGrande Le Petite Prince and Fox (EF). Montblanc Oyster Grey. Daily driver. Wet with pencil-like feedback. That’s the best kind of feedback. Grey ink works well for task management. The tasks themselves remain the focus of my spreads. Task management, scratch notes.
TWSBI Vac700R Iris (F-CSI, by Pen Realm). KOBE Kaigan Stone Grey, 31. The Vac’s wet feed brings out the dark side of KSG. It’s nearly black. The ground nib makes reading notes and lecture notes fun.
Blue/Teal
Franklin-Christoph 46 Philly 2020 Blue (F-CI, by Masuyama). Troublemaker Blue Guitar. Hard starts just about every time I turn to this combo. Writes well once the feed is started. A lovely deep blue that is great for routine writing and for accenting. Lesson plans, accent reading notes, journaling.
Kaweco Classic Sport Blue (BB). Diamine Smoke on the Water. Pocket carry. The wide nib keeps SotW dark and sheen-heavy. Sheen makes lesson plans easier to quickly scan from afar. Lesson plans, journaling, scratch notes.
Earth Tones
Diplomat Aero Sunset Orange (EF). Ferris Wheel Press Pumpkin Patch. Orange makes for a great marking accent color. It’s easily visible but avoids the subconscious message that my students did poorly. Marking, accent notes, journaling, and some poetry.
Monteverde Giant Sequoia Brown (M-SIG). Colorverse Brane (Glistening). A Franklin-Christoph nib brought life into this lovely pen. The “glistening” Brane brings fun accents to an otherwise subdued green. Together, they’re a fun pair to write with. Journaling, marking, and drafting.
Wild Cards
Pelikan m805 Stresemann Anthracite (F Architect, by Custom Nib Studio). Sailor Shikiori Yozakura. The great shading and pale coloring of this combo compliments my grey inks perfectly. My primary accent color for reading, meeting, and lecture notes this week.
