Remembering to relax and just play, a mnml digest
A curated journey through five articles, posts and podcasts that are speaking to me this week. Pulled widely from a week’s worth of reading. Shared in ten sentences or fewer. A fun means of reflecting on the blogs I regularly read in a way that spreads the linky love.
This week: remembering to relax and just play. Remembering to be in the moment. And remembering that I have the agency to make both happen. Short, poignant, and to the point. A lesson I’m grateful these bloggers, collectively, reminded me of.
Studio Diary: Part 2 (Colin Meloy’s Machine Shop). A peek behind the curtains. The Decemberists are collaborating, experimenting and following their own ideas on the journey to a new album. (I’m making an excited “eek!” right now.)
Learn to Relax (Writing at Large). Presentism — judging historical figures based on present-day values — is a naughty word to historians. But being in the moment is a worthy goal; like a cat on a hot car roof.
Bear: A Soulful Illustrated Meditation on Life with a Liberation from Depression (The Marginalian). However, my orbit through a task list closes my eyes to other fun, enjoyable, or rewarding things I could get into. I grow grumpy in these moments.
roma aeterna: montblanc homage to hadrian rosso antico (A Fleeting Ripple). The opening vignette to this post reminds me that little moments for relaxing are easy to pass on — often when I’m focused on the next task in my list. Just as they are easy to stumble into.
Books as toys (Austin Kleon). Because, importantly, I can turn most anything I use for work into something good for play, too. Whoo-ah.
