Customizing, personalizing and outright hacking, a mnml digest
A curated journey through five articles, posts and podcasts that are speaking to me this week. Pulled widely from a week’s worth of reading; and in ten sentences or fewer. A fun means of reflecting on the blogs I regularly read in a way that spreads the link love.
This week: Customizing, personalizing, and outright hacking my way toward the perfect writing experience. An experience that likely only exists just beyond reach. Were I to buy just one more pen or ink. Or notebook.
crystal clear: pilot custom heritage 92 (A Fleeting Ripple). “Most of the time the thing that pushes me to ink up a new pen is a desire, a craving of a new writing experience, a different paternal, a feeling” (last paragraph). Exactly: what keeps me writing is feeling drawn to a novel writing experience.
How to Swap Kaweco Sport Fountain Pen Nibs (JetPens). Changing hardware makes a massive difference. Learning to swap nibs without damaging my pen opened up a whole world of new writing experiences.
Planner Pens: Picking a Pen for the Plotter (The Gentleman Stationer). Or mixing and matching hardware. I am struck by folks’ creativity hacking their plotters and travelers to carry what they need, how they need.
Weekly Update: Pre-Dawn Running, Ducks, Books and Fountain Pens (Writing at Large). Some of my favorite frankenpens break rules of what should work together. This lovely blog willingly recreates journaling into what it needs to be day-to-day and week-to-week.
Søndagsplitten - Olaf Albert Paulson - The Godfather of Norwegian shorthand (Pennen er mektigere). That said, tricks and customizations often take on their own rules. Like shorthand (a language hack that allows folks to take notes quickly with only a few careful squiggles on the page), which has a fascinating history in both English and — as in Anders’ great essay — Norwegian.
[Note: the essay is in Norwegian. A quick trip to your favorite website translator is well worth your time. Anders wrote a wonderful article here.]

Note: This is an experimental post series. I’m still playing with a creative way to share links. Future posts may look quite different as I continue to tinker. Suggestions are quite welcome!
